Sashes

In our 12,000sqft facility we manufacture sashes using traditional techniques and joinery as well as an array of historic machinery and equipment. All of our sashes are made with true, full blind tenons, from the highest quality sustainably sourced eucalyptus.

All of our sashes are manufactured from premium Red Grandis eucalyptus. A sustainably grown and harvested wood which has rot and insect resistant characteristics, as well as very good stability. It is approximately as dense as old growth pine or Douglas fir. Material that cannot be consistently sourced today.

All sashes ship with two coats of primer. Paint is not available.

All of our material is milled and primed in house, then seasoned to ensure stability. Once it is cut to size and milled for joinery, it is primed again. The sides of the sashes that slide on the window frame are left bare, and should be left bare after the customer paints the sash.

Sashes for single and double hung windows are sold as a set because, it is necessary to ensure the meeting or check rail will seal correctly. Across North America several different meeting or check rail geometries are used. To make sure the window will close, seal and operate correctly we must replace both sashes, providing both sides of the meeting or check rail.

Sashes are sold fully assembled. However there are a few things that will be necessary.

-Painting of the sashes
-Installation of hardware (lifts and sash locks)
-Installation of sash cord if required
-Possible adjustment to ensure smooth operation

Fitment

We can ensure that your sashes will be precisely the measurement you provided to us.

If there is any squareness issues with the original window frame some adjustment may be necessary. This can nearly always be dealt with by sanding the edges or with carefully planing. No power tools should be necessary for any adjustment.

If your sashes are slightly to big, (+ 3/8) we can help you with documentation showing you how to cut the sashes down to the correct size. If they are too small unfortunately they will either need to be modified by a local carpenter or the sashes will need to be re-ordered and re-made.

Sash installation can most definitely be performed yourself. However, if you are uncomfortable it may be wise to employ the help of a trusted local carpenter who is versed in historic work.

Glazing

Glazing refers to the glass or installation of the glass installed in a sash.

All sashes that are configured with both lite divisions and insulated units must be glazed by Revival in house, before shipment. This is because the muntins that create the divided lites are adhered to the glass.

Single pane sashes and sashes with single lites that are configured with insulated units can be shipped without glass installed if requested.

You can order your sashes to be built with or to accept a variety of glazing options.
Sashes with insulated glass must be glazed prior to shipping.

Our glazing options include;
1/2″ (12mm) Insulated
1/2″ (12mm) Insulated Tempered
1/2″ (12mm) Insulated low-E Tempered
